The goji berry shrub, Lycium barbarum, also known as wolf berry, or matrimony vine, is a somewhat thorny shrub. It may be grown for its colourful mauve blossoms, red berries later in the season. Its growing requirements make it a challenge for Ontario gardeners, as a high Nitrogen fertilizer with organic compost mulch are needed twice a season. Most Ontario soils tend to be acidic, or low pH. Alkaline amendment may be needed, along with more frequent watering for the first few years.
