Porcelain Vine

(Question)

Please identify this climbing plant? My neighbour got a bad allergic reaction after touching it .

Also what is the ideal ph for growing clematis? Thank you

(Answer)

Thanks for your questions! The photo of the vine is quite blurry, but it  resembles Ampelopsis brevidpedunculata or porcelain vine, to which some people have skin allergies and which has become somewhat invasive plant in the eastern part of North America.

As for the clematis ph preference,  neutral soil to slightly alkaline conditions are best (pH 7 to 7.5). You can find an excellent guide to growing these lovely vines at the University of Illinois website here.
